Use your paper scraps for quick & fun cards

How to use your paper scraps to make cute cards

If you are like me, you save most of your paper scraps. I’m going to show you how to use them for a quick and easy card layout!!

Quick paper storage tip

I use 12.5 x 12.5 plastic storage envelopes to store my packages of Designer Series Paper (DSP). After crafting, most of the scraps go back into the envelope. I find that we underestimate how much paper we need for a project sometimes. You can get a lot more out of your paper than you may realize.

Let’s get started

Using the tailored tag punch is a perfect way to use up scraps. Punch out several shapes in coordinating paper, choose your card base and card front colors and start playing with the layout of the shapes.

This card is made with scraps from the Flowers for Every Season DSP collection (retired), a Basic White card base and Bumblebee for the card front.

Card making tips

Create your layout with the punched pieces and adhere them BEFORE you adhere the card front to the base. This way, you can easily trim off any of the punched pieces that hang off the edges which is much easier than cutting them first! And, it allows you to keep making changes to the layout while you work. You can stamp a sentiment in one of the pieces, like in the sample, or you can put the sentiment inside. If you want to step up the card, you can add ribbon or bling.

Your turn…
