Monochromatic Cards using Painted Poppies Stamps

The coordination of Stampin’ UP! products makes creating lovely monochromatic cards easy. While it is fun to use lots of bright colors when crafting, I do enjoy the simplicity of cards with a monochromatic theme. These photos show 3 similar cards in different color schemes. Pretty Peacock, Terra Cotta Tile and Rococo Rose are the 3 of the 2019-2021 In Colors. Because Stampin’ UP! has 6×6 DSP in the current In-Colors, the In-Colors are a great place to start when making monochromatic cards. Thanks to Gez C for this great card layout.

Supplies

Painted Poppies is the featured stamp set for this card. Paper supplies include cardstock in Pretty Peacock, Terra Cotta Tile, Rococo Rose and Whisper White in addition to the 2019-2021 In-Color DSP collection. (It is important to note that the designer series paper (DSP) used here was from the recently retired catalog. It is also important to note that another collection, with different patterns, has replaced this set in the new catalog. Because there is an equivalent replacement for the DSP, I opted to use the product I had on hand as a similar substitute. Additional supplies include Jet Black Stazon Ink, Blender Pens, Classic Stampin’ Pads in: Granny Apple Green, Pretty Peacock, Terra Cotta Tile and Rococo Rose.

This layout for a card is one that is easy to replicate with many different DSP Patterns and stamp sets. You may not be able to maintain the monochromatic look of this card with different supplies and that’s okay! Challenge yourself to use this layout with different products. I encourage you to post your creations, using this layout, in the comments of the post! I like to see how the same layout can create such a wide variety of different projects. Measurements

The card base is the typical size card, 5.5 x 8.5 scored at 4.25. The whisper white background is 5.25 x 4.0. The pattern DSP is cut at 4.0 x 2.25. The fifth (counting largest to smallest) of the stitched rectangle dies was used to cut the whisper white cardstock. It is an odd size so cutting the cardstock mat may test your ruler skills ( 2 7/16 x 3 11/16.)

General Directions

I stamped the image in Stazon Ink because I used the blender pens to color the image. If I had used the Momento Ink Pad, the blender pen would have picked up some of the black ink, muddying the colors used on the flowers. I dipped the pen on the ink pad and swirled it around on the plastic of the ink pad to dilute the color a bit. It’s always best to start with a lighter color and add more color to it. Give the ink a chance to dry before adding another layer of color. Getting the paper too “wet” with the blender pen can cause the paper to pill and look worn out. As long as you give the layers a chance to dry, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Waiting until all the coloring done before adhering the pieces together is the way to go. Complete stamping and coloring before assembly (when possible). This way, if you make a mistake, you aren’t wasting the entire card over one error.
